Q. |
Will
you take my vehicle even if it doesnt run? |
| A. |
Yes, in many cases. The only exception is in cases in which vehicles have been damaged to such an extent that even their parts are not salvageable. |
Q. |

Will
I have to pay towing costs? |
| A. |
No.
The Salvation Army will pay the towing costs. |
Q. |
Do I have to be there when the tow company arrives? |
A. |
No. When you call to arrange the pick-up, inform The Salvation Army representative that you will not be there for the pick-up. You will be given instructions on what to do with your title and keys. |
Q. |
How long will it be before my vehicle is picked up? |
A. |
Pick-ups usually occur 2-5 business days after you call us. If you need to arrange an earlier pick-up we can often make such arrangements. |
Q. |
Can I donate vehicles other than cars? |
A. |
Yes. You may donate a car, van, truck, boat with a trailer, RV, trailer, or even a small plane. |
Q. |
Is my donation tax-deductible? |
A. |
Yes, if you itemize your deductions. |
Q. |
How is the amount of my tax deduction determined? |
A. |
Effective January 1, 2005, the allowable tax deduction for most vehicle donations is connected to the gross proceeds obtained from the sale of the vehicle. In the case of a vehicle that sells for less than $500.00, the donor is allowed to deduct a fair market value up to $500.00. In the case of a car that sells for more than $500.00, the maximum deduction that the donor may claim may not exceed the gross proceeds received by the charitable organization. In either case, we provide the donor with written confirmation of the vehicle sale, the amount of the allowable tax deduction, and all forms they will require to claim their deductions. |
Q. |
Ive
lost the title to my vehicle. Can I still donate it? |
| A. |
No. We
cannot accept vehicles without titles. Replacement titles can
usually be obtained through your state Dept. of Motor Vehicles. |
Q. |
What
do you do with the donated vehicles? |
A. |
The vehicles are sold at an auction, and the proceeds are used to fund our drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. These programs are provided to our residents at absolutely no cost to themselves. Additionally, The Salvation Army Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center receives no government grants, nor do we receive any funds from the United Way. Instead, we rely solely on the income generated by your donations. |
